Flora FloraCal [60 caps]

Only: $15.63

Formulated to help prevent the loss of calcium from bones and teeth. FloraCal is especially formulated to provide effective vitamin, mineral and herbal dietary supplementation for those who are at risk of broken bones due to calcium loss or extreme activity including post-menopausal women, older men and professional and amateur athletes. Great care has been taken to ensure a proper balance of complementary ingredients to enhance the absorption of calcium and other minerals while at the same time reducing calcium loss through bone resorption.

To effect this holistic approach to supplementation FloraCal includes two forms of calcium, highly absorbable calcium citrate, as well as calcium phosphate, a source of both calcium and phosphorous, together with red clover to balance hormones, vitamin D3 to increase calcium absorption and utilization and horsetail extract for its bone-strengthening silica content. FloraCal also contains additional minerals needed to support calcium uptake by the body including magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. The main form of calcium within the has been shown clinically to significantly increase bone mineral density in post-menopausal women.

FLORA PRODUCT INGREDIENTS:

Calcium (Citrate/Phosphate)
is the most abundant mineral in the human body and is the main substance giving strength to our bones and teeth. When calcium intake is deficient, parathyroid hormone is secreted to take calcium out of bone tissue to return the blood calcium concentration to normal. Osteoporosis develops when there is a sustained loss of calcium from bone. Clinical studies have shown that calcium citrate is superior to calcium carbonate in preventing bone loss.

Phosphorus (Calcium phosphate)
is an essential ingredient of all cell protoplasm, nervous tissue, and bones. Phosphorus is one of the most abundant elements in the human body. About 85% of the roughly 500 to 700 grams of phosporus in the body is contained in bones and teeth, where it is an important constituent of hydroxyapatite, a crystalline compound that gives bones strength.

Potassium (Citrate)
is essential for the correct functioning of all body cells, including bone strengthening, and calcium processing and storage within the body. Body storage of potassium is low; therefore, it is required in the diet daily. Mental and physical stress can also deplete the body's potassium supply.

Magnesium (Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein chelate)
is an essential nutritional element and helps keep bones strong. It is the catalyst for more than 300 enzymatic reactions, in particular those involving the fundamental energy molecule of the body, ATP. Most people understand how important calcium is for the strength of bones and teeth and the health of skin, but few realize that magnesium is also essential. Despite the importance of magnesium to myriad bodily functions, hypomagnesemia (magnesium deficiency) is surprisingly common in hospital populations and in the general public and often remains undetected and overlooked.

Zinc (Citrate)
is an essential trace element or micronutrient needed for the proper growth and health of all animals and plants. The human body requires zinc for health in small quantities (15-30 mg daily). Zinc is found in almost every cell and is required to assure proper bone mineralization and collagen formation. It stimulates the activity of approximately 100 enzymes. Additionally, zinc supports a healthy immune system and is needed for wound healing. Getting adequate daily zinc can significantly help the body to resist infections.

Silica/Silicon (Horsetail aqueous extract)
is used medicinally to stimulate healing of broken bones. The best documented function of silicon is that it facilitates bone calcification and bone mineralization. This means that the body cannot assimilate and make use of calcium without the presence of silicon, making it an important nutrient to those concerned with osteoporosis. It is also used to treat connective tissue injuries and to promote healthy eyes, hair, skin and nails.

Manganese (Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein chelate)
is an important trace element and may be essential for utilization of B vitamins. Manganese is a component of several enzyme systems and is essential for normal bone structure. Dr. Jeanne Freeland-Graves, professor of nutrition at the University of Texas reports that animals deficient in manganese develop severe osteoporosis. She also discovered in a human study that women with osteoporosis had about one-third less manganese in their blood as healthy women. According to Phyllis Johnson, Ph.D. of the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, women in particular need to maintain adequate dietary levels of manganese. A study of fifteen young women who were on lowmanganese diets for five and a half months showed that the women's menstrual flow increased in volume by about 50%. They ate a mere milligram of manganese daily, about half the national average. The increased blood loss also swept away between 50 and 100% more iron, copper, zinc and manganese.

Vitamin D3
is otherwise known as calciferol, and is most well known for its benefits to the bones. Vitamin D helps the body to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus and is important for the prevention of rickets in children and osteomalacia and osteoporosis in adults. The main function of vitamin D is to aid the body in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones and teeth.

Red Clover (blossom)
is a legume rich in isoflavonoid phytoestrogens including: genistein, daidzein, formononetin and biochanin-A, compounds that are now recognized for supporting beneficial hormone levels within the body in both men and women, without having any negative side effects. Controlled clinical trials show that phytoestrogens from red clover help to treat osteoporosis by increasing bone mineral density in osteoporosis patients and helping to maintain proper bone density in menopausal women. Red clover has also been clinically proven to relieve occasional hot flushes and night sweats.
